An alleged driver for a prostitution ring has been accused of taking women from Queens to Brewster to service hundreds of clients who paid to have sex with women who were often coerced or forced into it. In a complaint that was unsealed on Wednesday, federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York said Teodoro Rojas Lopez had been driving women to Brewster for seven years to engage in prostitution. They said Lopez, who was ly arrested on prostitution accusations in Putnam County, had Brewster clients in his cellphone. Lopez, a Queens resident who is also known as Leonardo Martinez, used text messages and the WhatsApp cellphone application to communicate with clients in Brewster, according to the complaint.
The FBI said Lopez knew that many of the women he drove were coerced or forced to work in prostitution. The FBI said it interviewed Lopez at his home in Augustwhen he allegedly admitted his role in the prostitution operation.
Some of the conversations were translated and included in the complaint. In one text exchange last May, according to the complaint, a Brewster client asked Lopez, "What did you bring," to which Lopez responded, "A good girl.
Lopez told another client, "I'll bring a good and pretty girl. From Costa Rica," according to the complaint.
The FBI said it saw Lopez bring women to Brewster multiple times between March 28 and May 22,mostly to apartments in multifamily houses in the village. The FBI said it identified Lopez as a driver as part of an investigation into a Queens sex trafficking operation that has been ongoing since Lopez faces a charge of promoting prostitution.
His lawyer, Kannan Sundaram, could not immediately be reached for comment. Lopez was ly arrested and charged with third-degree promoting prostitution and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
In he was taken into custody in Carmel, where he was driving a car with two women, whom he had driven to 12 prostitution appointments that day, the FBI said. He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor drug charge and was sentenced to days in custody, according to the complaint.
